NO HOCKEY! I'm so mad I could eat my shirt!

What a disappointment to have the 2012-2013 Hockey season cancelled!I love hockey!

Ever since I was 8, My brother and I would play Nintendo's Blades of Steel. I was always my favorite team: the Penguins! (GO PENS GO)

Of course, my favorite player was Mario Lemieux! He was dreamy with his curly black hair and pretty smile! I loved watching him play alongside the team! It was always a treat to watch hockey (in black and white) on my small 12" TV.

This cake was made for a Pens fan: a little boy who is celebrating his birthday this week.

Of course, the sleeve has the trademark number 66 - or Lemieux's number. ♥
While I think Crosby is a great player, he often plays up injuries (not the one that kept him out most of the season last year, but the in-game small hits). I apologize if that offends... it is simply my opinion.

I am sure most of you remember that the Pens changed their logo (which turned out looking like a flying pigeon). The classic logo (Below) is my favorite!
I made it out of MMF, hand-painted with Americolors. Labors of love I guess!

So, I wait with baited breath for the next season. I hope that the NHL gets their stuff together, so we fans can enjoy the wonders of sport. I may have to take on Football!

Call of Duty Cake: Fake Blood Warning

Okay, please don't be too shocked by the photos. I hate violence, and am not much of a gamer, but when my super, uber-gamer friend asked me to do a special cake for her birthday, I could not say no, even when she told me what she wanted.... You see... my friend plays COD... and not the fish. COD, or Call of Duty, is a gaming franchise which prides itself on a HUGE base of gamers. This game is GOLD in the industry.

Anyway, my friend plays on several teams, and is a quick-scope champion... and a girl. A GAMER GIRL!
What is awesome about 'girlsarookie807' is that she is a huge gamer, knows COD in and out (again, not the fish), and yet, loves the colour pink, and paints her nails better than I could ever hope to. She's awesome!

So, her cake symbolized her perfectly. A crate filled with her two favorite weapons: Throwing Daggers and Grenades. I love the throwing daggers, they were made of Gumpaste, then painted to look like real throwing knives. Can you see? I also added in some bullets to symbolize her quick-scope team.

The cake would not have been right if I did not add a touch of pink. So, the pink bow and rose are the perfect way of symbolizing her femininity.. EXCEPT THAT THE ROSE, CRATE AND ENTIRE CAKE IS COVERED IN BLOOD!!!

Honestly, my favorite part of this cake was the grenade! It's cake, covered in fondant. I had to use MMF to make the ridges, just placing larger squares of MMF on the cake, then covering it in a smooth layer of fondant. Perfect! Gumpaste trigger and pull make it perfect! SUPER FUN!

Okay, onward. My College Caking Course (hehhee.. alliteration), starts Monday! I am super excited for that. I will take photos if I can!

Until then!

This Cake Has Spirit!

This little cake has a whole lot of spirit! The week, the NWO (North Western Ontario) cheerleading teams got together for regional basketball tournament. This is a time to get together and stunt, cheer, and have a lot of fun! To celebrate a coming together, out team hosted a nice little pot luck which grew into a large event. We had over 100 people (66 cheer, and some odd 40 basketball players) come to dine. Man, was it fun! Everyone had a blast.

As part of the celebration, I made a cake. I originally posted the little gum-paste girl which was to be the cake topper, but held off on the cake photos - which were still in progress. Now, as you can see, the cake is done, and the photos are up! What a lot of work this all was!

There is a colour of each team from the region represented on the cake - Yellow flowers for our Muskies, Blue cake fondant for the Dryden Eagles, and a purple rose on top for the fabulous Kenora Broncos!

When I had everything all set up on went the topper. The kids went mad! It was a fabulous treat. The cake is Vanilla-Orange (since we have nut allergies) with Chocolate-Strawberry ganache filling covered in vanilla-orange buttercream, wrapped in MMF. Most kids had never tried Fondant around here, and were very happy to get the chance!

I totally forgot to take a picture of the inside of the cake. SORRY!

Such a cute little cake. Lots of fun to make, and had a great time spending it with my girls! To all the teams, great job! Hope you had as much fun as I had!

Cheerleader? Gumpaste - TIRED!

It's late. I'm tried. I'm blue, or at least my hands are from dyes. But, she's complete! I'm super excited. I've been playing a lot with Sugar Paste, and well, finally, I've created a gum-paste lady! Or, at least one I'm very happy with.

I think I'm most proud of her face, the cute little smile is just what I wanted it to be!

Now, for the cake which she will sit upon. :: Sigh ::

It's going to be a long night... I think I just lost my voice. Until Tomorrow!

Fort Frances High School Math Olympics

Happy Olympics Everyone!
Hopefully you're enjoying the spirit as much as I am. I'm stuck on the hockey game right now, Canada is winning 7-3 in the 2nd. GO CANADA!

This week past, the Fort Frances High School Math Department decided to hold their first Math Olympics. As a way of congratulating students on a job well done, they ordered some Gold Medal cookies. Here's the pattern that ended up being the final product:

As you can imagine, this was a big order, but it was worth it. The kids were generally quite excited about the cookie. I'm just glad to have my kitchen counters back! This is only a section of the 7doz cookies ordered.

It was really great working with the math teacher, and I was super pleased, as well as she, with the final product. Red Ribbons celebrate success!

Now that the order is out of the way, I will be able to get back to the game! Hopefully everyone gets to enjoy the spirit of the Olympics, even if it is while doing math!

Just one last thing before I go. I woke up early to do a morning practice with the cheer squad today, and decided it was time for some gourmet flavored coffee (Raspberry Chocolate♥). I know, I know, it is certainly not Starbucks, but there is something amazing to be said about the flavor! Anyway, when I poured out the beans today, I smiled a little. They came out all pretty :

Now, after working at Starbucks, I realize two things:1. The beans must have been mixed old/new because the darker beans still contain their oils, while the lighter beans have dried a little (which is bad). 2. Flavored coffee is not at all natural, and is chemically treated. But, still, they were just so pretty! So I will go against all my coffee training, and will simply look at the happy, tasty beans which made an amazing cup of coffee this morning! ♥ I always thought that coffee beans were pretty!

Muskie Cheerleader Cookies!

The Muskie Cheerleaders here in Fort Frances have been working hard for their upcoming competition. As a little reward for all their work, and because a coach needs to keep up moral, I made quickly whipped up a batch of cheerleader sugar-cookies. The girls absolutely loved them.

Next time, I've got to try to make boy cheerleaders!
